Warner Bros. releases free Batmobile Documentary showcasing Batman's iconic rides online
If you’re a Batman fanboy or fangirl and absolutely love the rides he gets around in, you definitely need to watch this documentary on YouTube.As part of their At Home series to keep everyone safe and entertained throughout COVID-19, film studio Warner Bros. has opened up their vault and are live streaming content onto their YouTube channel for free. The latest episode to hit the stream is The Batmobile Documentary from 2012 which takes you behind the scenes of the iconic comic turned film franchise and gets you up close and personal with the caped crusader's iconic rides. The Batmobile has featured on many top cars from pop culture lists over the years and you can definitely see why.
You’ll get to explore the history of the classic Batmobile from the early comics, through to the blockbuster films and even the modern animated series. Notable Batman movie directors including Christopher Nolan, Joel Schumacher and Tim Burton, as well as actors Christian Bale from “The Dark Knight” and Adam West from the 1960s Batman TV series discuss the evolution of the loved vehicles.
You'll also get to hear from the designers behind the cars as well as the lucky stunt drivers who got to operate them during the filming of those iconic scenes.
A red, but speedy looking car first premiered in the inaugural appearance of the "Bat-Man" in Detective Comics #27 released in May 1939, a year before Batman #1. It lacked bat wings, but it did look sporty. Batman’s unofficial ally in crime-fighting, Commissioner Gordon, remarked in this episode, "Bruce Wayne is a nice young chap – but he certainly must lead a boring life... seems disinterested in everything." The eponymous Batmobile came later on in Detective Comics #48 and Batman’s choice of wheels probably didn’t change Gordon’s mind – it wasn’t anything particularly ‘batty’ until issue #5 of Batman which featured an intimidating bat head and scalloped fins. How times have changed for old Batman.
The Batman staring an all-new Batmobile is set to hit cinemas in October 2021 with Robert Pattinson donning the iconic cape and mask.
