Members of the Z Car Club of NSW were surprised to have an unexpected model ‘gatecrash’ their annual President’s Run recently, with the all-new 2022 Nissan Z turning up ahead of its Australian launch in the coming weeks.
One of the first examples of the new-generation Z to have arrived Down Under, the flagship 2022 Nissan Z Proto received a thorough going-over from dozens of classic Z owners at Beaufoy Merlin lookout near Hill End before the distinctive Ikazuchi Yellow-painted model – arguably the world’s most stylish hi-vis jacket – led a procession of sports cars spanning more than 50 years of Z-car heritage back down the hill and onto some of the state’s best driving roads.
Club president John Wakeling said it was an “amazing experience” for club members to see the next chapter of Z lineage in the metal ahead of its national launch.
“What’s so special about this car is that it blends elements of every historic Z model, but is still very much unique and modern,” he said.
“So for our members to be able to identify design elements from their own cars was amazing.
“Not only was it a surprise for our members, but I think Nissan might have secured a few extra customers after seeing the new Z in the metal.”
They may have to wait a while for delivery, however, with the first allocation already sold out and no word yet on timing or numbers for the second batch.
“We know just how passionate the fans of this model are, whether they’re driving the first Datsun 240Z or the Nissan 370Z NISMO, so we were thrilled they could be among the first people in Australia to experience the all-new Z in person,” said Nissan Australia managing director Adam Paterson.
“With each new Z comes a new generation of dedicated Z-car devotees, and we look forward to introducing the all-new Z to performance car fans across Australia soon.”
The gesture forms part of an elaborate ‘pre-launch plan’ for the new Z that’s designed to draw attention to the seventh-generation sports car.
