The inbound Aspark SP600 electric hypercar has reached an incredible 438.7km/h in a new top-speed record run at Germany’s Papenburg proving ground.
Going a considerable 26.7km/h faster than the current official record-holder, the Rimac Nevera, the Aspark SP600’s new high-speed benchmark for a series-production EV was achieved on Papenburg’s 1.8km straight with Nurburgring N24 winner Marc Basseng behind the wheel.
The speed was recorded and verified by a Racelogic V-Box device, but some commentators have branded the Aspark SP600 a “production-intend prototype” rather than a showroom-spec car.
Looking like an upgraded version of the already wild Aspark Owl, the Japanese hypercar received a substantially tweaked aerodynamics package for the record attempt.

It’s not known if the Owl’s 1480kW quad-motor electric powertrain has also been boosted for its application in the Aspark SP600.
Collaborating with Bridgestone for the record attempt, the SP600 ran a bespoke tyre – based on the Potenza Race road tyre – designed to endure speeds in excess of 420km/h.
Italian firm Manifattura Automobili Torino (MAT), which helped develop and currently builds the Aspark Owl, has also been involved in the SP600 program.

MAT also produces the New Stratos, Glickenhaus SCG003 and Apollo IE.
“It has been about 10 years since we started making the Owl Hypercar,” said Aspark CEO Masanori Yoshida.
“We aimed for the world’s fastest acceleration car, and then attempted and achieved the top-speed world record today.”
The production version of the Aspark SP600 is expected to be fully revealed in the near future.
