Ford CEO Jim Farley has released the first official teaser of the new 2023 Ford F-150 Raptor R and confirmed it will feature a mighty new supercharged V8.
Expected to crown the forthcoming Ford F-150 range in Australia, which enters local right-hand drive conversion next year, the R-rated full-size Raptor pick-up was shown in a short video clip performing an outlandish desert drift, accompanied by a soul-stirring supercharged V8 soundtrack.
If that wasn’t clear enough, Farley confirmed in the Tweet that the new Ford F-150 Raptor R will swap out the previous-generation truck’s 3.5-litre twin-turbocharged V6 by saying: “The V8 sounds amazing!”

Created to rival the $180,000 RAM 1500 TRX, the Ford F-150 Raptor R is hotly tipped to come with the same supercharged 5.2-litre Predator V8 as the one that powers the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, pumping out an incredible 556kW and 846Nm of torque.
That means the Raptor R should easily match the 523kW/880Nm RAM 1500 TRX’s 0-60mph (97km/h) acceleration of 4.5 seconds, topping out at a limited 190km/h.
Despite the new Tweet from Ford’s top brass, no further details of the F-150 Raptor R have been released, but from earlier spy shots it’s expected to come with new 17-inch rims shod with huge 37-inch all-terrain tyres.
Underneath, expect armoured plating and a chassis with off-road racing-derived suspension and special Fox dampers, plus an electronically controlled locking rear differential.
Both Trail Control and Terrain Management driving aids will also be developed for the fast truck.
Inside, there will be Recaro leather seats, power-adjustable pedals and a large 12.0-inch infotainment system that will run Ford’s latest SYNC 4 operating system.
