New Nissan Z takes on Tassie

The hype campaign for the 2022 Nissan Z continues this week with a fresh video showing the new-generation sports car thumping up and down Tasmania’s famous 99 Bends Road – exactly the terrain Nissan says the new Z was designed for.

Linking Queenstown with Gormanston, 99 Bends Road is one of the most revered stretches of tarmac on the Apple Isle and regarded by many as one of the toughest stages of the annual Targa Tasmania tarmac rally.

The video doesn’t show or tell us anything new about the new Z, but it does give us an opportunity to see what at least some of the lucky buyers who snapped up a first-allocation build slot could get up to once they’ve taken delivery of their new rear-drive coupe in the coming weeks.

Packed with plenty of slow motion, tracking and on-board shots, the film clip is backed by dramatic drumming, but the aural star of the show is the new Z’s twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6.

For reference, the force-fed bent six churns out 298kW/475Nm – more than enough to keep drivers on their toes along a tight Tassie mountain pass, especially in the damp.

Perhaps carsales will need to make its own voyage to 99 Bends Road in the new Z with a Toyota GR Supra in tow – and maybe a Ford Mustang and BMW M240i just for good measure…
