WATCH: Rimac Nevera hypercar go rallying
Late-stage prototype version of all-electric hypercar gets down and dirty ahead of crash testsRimac has released a new video featuring one of its pre-production pure-electric 2022 Rimac Nevera hypercars playing in the mud off-road in Croatia.
The short YouTube video starring Rimac CEO Mate Rimac behind the wheel shows a near production-spec pre-series Nevera being driven rapidly sideways in mud.
Later on, the car-maker's founder even indulges in some doughnuts on gravel.
During the video, Rimac also gives us a sneak peek at the construction of the car-maker's all-new HQ that will include an on-site test track, production hub, accommodation and museum.
The Rimac Nevera featured in the video is claimed to be one of the hypercars used by both the media and for durability testing and performance evaluation.
Its future, once the newly appointed boss of the Bugatti-Rimac joint-venture has hosed off all the mud, is less than bright.
Next up, this particular Nevera will undergo the indignity of being repainted a less fetching blue hue using a hand roller in preparation for a worse fate – the crash testing needed to homologate the €2 million ($A3.1m) hypercar for the US market.
It's not known which mode the Nevera was driven in, but with all the gratuitous sliding going on it suggests the 1408kW quad-motor hypercar rival to the Lotus Evija might have been in its dedicated Drift mode.
Whatever setting, little of the Nevera's mighty 2360Nm torque peak looks like it was deployed in the video, so there was no demonstration of the 0-97km/h sprint of 1.85 seconds.
The new battery-electric Rimac hypercar also came nowhere near its 412km/h top speed.
What is shown is how friendly the Nevera looks when it hits the dirt, perhaps something to do with its decent 48:52 front-to-rear weight distribution.
There's also no word on how fast the Rimac drains its power reserves when hooning in the dirt, drawing from a 120kWh H-shaped battery that provides up to 550km on the WLTP test cycle.
A further video will be released that will detail the multiple crash tests the Nevera will be subjected to, which may be painful viewing for some.
