Toyota has released a new teaser that reveals how the 2019 Toyota Supra will sound when it launches in Australia in the third quarter of 2019.
Inviting viewers to "listen to its legendary 3.0-litre", the Japanese car-maker posted a video on its YouTube channel overnight.
The short vid allows enthusiasts to clearly hear the reborn 'A90' Toyota Supra's turbocharged 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder being revved hard.
Unfortunately, instead of giving us a crystal-clear image of the car itself, Toyota has chosen to blur the footage of the eagerly anticipated Nissan 370Z rival.
The new Toyota Supra will be revealed in full as planned at the Detroit motor show on January 14.
The good news is the BMW-sourced six-cylinder's soundtrack is promising -- sounding smooth and sonorous inside the car and mean and gravelly out.
Enthusiasts will also appreciate both the exhaust crackles and burbling on the overrun, plus the video's gratuitous sound of tyre squeal as the driver enjoys a deserted warehouse.
Last week a little more of the Supra puzzle was inadvertently revealed when a leaked image of the Supra's nose appeared online.
Toyota has been careful not to release any further details of the turbocharged 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder under the Supra's long bonnet but, from our early drive of a prototype in Europe, we reckon it will produce up to 250kW and 500Nm of torque.
Against the clock the new Supra should be on target to reach 100km/h, from standstill, in less than five seconds and exceed 260km/h.
Initially, all models are offered with an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission. A manual may be offered later.
Later on from launch the powerful six-pot will be joined by a turbocharged four-cylinder engine, also expected to be borrowed from BMW.
Weighing in at around 1500kg, engineers have been careful to optimise the weight distribution of the Supra to around 50:50, which should ensure agile and well-balanced handling.
The new Toyota Supra has already been seen testing at the Nurburgring and final chassis tuning sign off occurred in Australia this week. Pricing and specifications will be announced following its reveal at the 2019 Detroit motor show in January.
