Bridgestone Australia has a Red Bull Pit Shirt signed by Mark Webber ready to go to the highest bidder. The shirt, also signed by Webber's teammate Sebastien Vettel, commemorates the Aussie driver's win at the German Grand Prix last year.
Not only did the occasion mark the first win for Webber, it was the first time an Australian had won a GP in 28 years; Alan Jones being the last to do so back in 1981. Webber's win was all the sweeter for the reason that he had also qualified on pole.
"There would be few Formula One fans who wouldn't recall what an amazing race Mark drove at the German Grand Prix to claim his maiden victory," said Stanley Toh, Marketing Manager for Bridgestone Australia Ltd.
"He incurred a drive-through penalty for making contact with Rubens Barrichello at the start of the race – something that would normally be enough to put a driver out of contention for the win.
"However, Mark drove with incredible pace that weekend to dominate the race and record his historic first grand prix victory. Of course, the fact that he did so using Bridgestone Potenza tyres is something of which we are extremely proud!"
Bridgestone is conducting an on-line auction for the framed shirt, commencing from 5:30 PM ADST today (Friday, November 5). The tyre company will donate proceeds from the auction to the Leukaemia Foundation, Bridgestone's preferred charity. In the recent past, Bridgestone has supported the Leukaemia Foundation's 2010 Light the Night event and the charitable organisation's Patient Transport vehicle fleet.
