Driving a Nissan X-TRAIL e-POWER or QASHQAI e-POWER is a relaxing experience. Not only is e-POWER quieter and smoother than a vehicle with a traditional internal combustion engine, but it is also easier.
With the flick of a switch, you can activate e-Pedal Step¹: a single pedal for accelerating and braking. e-Pedal Step removes the need to jump between two pedals in stop-start traffic, at speeds above 10km/h, or for spirited driving on winding roads.
Because e-POWER’s electric motors work in both directions (one electric motor in Nissan QASHQAI e-POWER, two in Nissan X-TRAIL e-POWER), providing power to move the vehicle forward when accelerating and capturing wasted energy when decelerating, e-POWER can use regenerative braking to convert a portion of the kinetic energy from braking into electrical energy to recharge the battery.
With similar levels of torque produced in either direction, the electric motors provide sufficient power to slow the vehicle down by simply releasing the throttle. As a result, with the e-Pedal Step mode activated, drivers only have to use the conventional mechanical brake pedal when coming to a complete standstill or in an emergency².
Once a driver is familiar with how effective e-Pedal Step can be, it makes the driving experience more enjoyable and relaxing.
¹e-Pedal Step may not be suitable under all driving conditions; correct operation is the responsibility of the driver.
