Whether it's your first car or an upgrade, there are obvious things you shouldn’t compromise on when looking to buy a car. Comfort, brand, fuel economy, and what extras and latest gadgets it comes with, all play an important part when making this life decision.

But what about… car colour? No doubt you’re familiar with the many personality tests floating around – maybe you’ve done the odd one during team bonding exercises in the workplace. But when it comes to buying your own dream car, what does the colour you drive away with really say about you and your personality?

Black is symbolic of mystery, power, elegance, and sophistication. If you’re reading this and have a black car, no doubt you and your great style agree.

Ah white, so pure, so innocent. All white car owners must be pure angels, right?

White cars can also convey other meanings like cleanliness, freshness, and simplicity. White is also often seen as a blank slate, symbolising a new beginning or fresh start.

As a former red car owner, who then bought a white car, I think I tend to agree. 10 years in a bright red Hyundai Getz was very flashy. Moving to my white Volkswagen Polo channelled a fresh start for me. Did I pick it on purpose? Maybe. I still have a little memory of my former red car days, though, with the Beats edition of my Polo, meaning I have very cute red side mirrors.

You my friend feel the need, the need for speed. Red car owners have a zest for life and love nothing more than the sound of the engine revving up. Red is the colour most associated with extremes (good and bad), adventures, passion and of course, love.

Bubbly and happiness! All yellow car owners are a bright yellow VW Bug in my mind. You’re a happy little creature, like Brum, finding your way through the streets and going on adventures.

Yellow also symbolises optimism, energy, joy, and friendship. So, no wonder all your friends with yellow cars are so cheerful to be around, even if their preferred car colour isn’t overly popular on the roads these days.
