What's on in Brisbane
The Brisbane Motor Show opened today and featured more than 20 new models on displayIt's all go in Brisbane for the next week and a half. The city's annual motor show kicked off today with 20 new models launched, according to the organisers.
Probably the biggest news from Brisbane is the first look at Fiat's new Ritmo in the flesh (see separate story here), fleshing out the Italian company's range on the Ateco Automotive stand.
BMW has placed the 1 Series coupe on sale (more here) and announced the pricing. Two engines are available for the new model, both sixes, both displacing 3.0 litres. The 125i is powered by a Valvetronic engine developing 160kW of power and 270Nm of torque. This model, with the standard six-speed manual transmission is the starter variant, priced from $54,400.
The 135i with its twin-turbo HPDI engine, produces 225kW of power and 400Nm of torque. This model is priced at $71,400. For an extra $2800, the option of a six-speed 'Steptronic' transmission is available for both grades.
Citroen has an automatic variant of its C4 HDi 2.0-litre model at the show (more here).
The long anticipated Lexus version of the 200 Series LandCruiser, the LX 570, has been presented at the show, along with the new V8 engine for the GS model, the GS 460 (more here).
Suzuki has begun wholesaling the turbodiesel Grand Vitara (priced at $34,990) to coincide with the opening of the Brisbane show, although pricing and specification announced at the show may vary from the applicable details throughout the rest of Australia, since distribution in Queensland is handled by a different distributor.
Both Ford and Holden are holding off any major announcements until the Melbourne Motor Show, at the end of the month.
For Brisbane however, Ford unveiled the limited edition Falcon SR, which is based on the entry-level XT model, but with the addition of: a six-stack CD audio system, unique sports seat trim, a leather-wrapped sports steering wheel, a body kit with a Fairmont-style chrome front grille and bonnet, 17-inch nine-spoke alloy wheels, automatic transmission and sports suspension. Ford estimates the extra items to be worth $7000, but the company has released the Falcon SR priced at $32,888, on the road.
The Brisbane Motor Show runs from February 1 to 10.
