The 2024 Audi RS 6 Avant GT has landed in Australia, with pricing announced at $399,000 plus on-road costs for each of the 22 cars that will be sold here, with the entire allocation all spoken for.
Announcing it will make just 660 globally, in our market the special wagon is priced a hefty $149,000 more than the standard Audi RS 6 Performance it's based on, despite wild new Audi RS 6 Avant GT getting neither more power or performance – not that it needed more of either, with its twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 that pushes out an epic 463kW and 805Nm of torque.
Combined with Audi's quattro all-wheel drive and an eight-speed auto, the RS 6 GT launches from 0-100km/h in just 3.3 seconds and tops out at 305km/h.
Where the RS 6 GT differs and why many were happy to stump up the extra cash is for some of the mechanical changes introduced.
They include a free quattro sport rear differential that adds a rear-bias to the RS 6's handling repertoire and new manually adjustable coilover suspension that can be tailored to your preferred driving style.
The new suspension is said to also bring a higher spring rate, with 30 per cent stiffer springs on the front axle and a substantially 80 per cent at the rear.
There's three-way adjustment for both the dampers and anti-roll bars.
Audi Australia has warned the new buyers of the 22-run RS 6 GT that the new coilover suspension is "pending availability" suggesting limited supplies.
The super-wagon will also be offered with both the RS Sport Suspension with the car-makers clever pitch and roll cancelling Dynamic Ride Control (DRC), or the regular car's RS adaptive air suspension for maximum comfort.
Carbon-ceramic brakes with red calipers are standard.
Externally, it's also hard to miss the RS 6 GT as it rides on huge white painted 22-inch six-spoke alloy wheels, also the bonnet, front fenders and mirror caps are all made from ultra-lightweight carbon-fibre.
The grille and front air intakes, meanwhile, are finished in gloss black.
At the rear of the car it's hard not to miss the higher rear spoiler and the revised diffuser. The most extreme Audi wagon ever also deletes the standard car's roof rails.
In Australia buyers will have the choice of either Arkona White or Mythos Black with both cars coming with colour coded wheels and the prominent graphics inspired by the 2020 RS 6 GTO concept that was said to have been inspired by the legendary Audi 90 quattro IMSA GTO racer that competed in the US in 1989 with great success.
Within, the RS 6 GT gets leather and Alcantara carbon-fibre bucket seats, a Dinamica-wrapped dash, centre console and armrest and headline, a number plaque, RS 6 GT kickplates and a 19-speaker 1820W Bang & Olufsen sound system.
One final pub fact that you can boast to your mates is unlike the regular RS 6 Performance that is built at Neckarsulm, the special RS 6 GT is carted off to the Bollinger Hofe plant for its finishing touches – the same factory that, until recently, built the Audi R8 supercar.
Like the regular Audi RS 6 Performance the new limited edition is covered by a five-year unlimited-kilometre warranty that comes with five years roadside assistance. A pre-paid five-year servicing plan is also available, with extra two-year servicing packs that can extend the factory warranty to up to nine years.
"We are excited to bring the RS 6 Avant GT to the Australian market. This exclusive model not only underscores Audi’s commitment to performance and innovation but also celebrates our rich motorsport heritage,” said Jeff Mannering Audi Australia's MD.
"This unique car is a brilliant example of Audi’s continuous pursuit of dynamic driving performance. With its bespoke features and highly limited availability, the RS 6 Avant GT will create a new chapter in the history of Audi in Australia."
