Wild 900kW McLaren BC-03 in the works

One-off McLaren BC-03 inspired by hybrid Vision GT concept is said to have been commissioned by super wealthy customer

British supercar-maker McLaren has confirmed it is creating a bespoke customer commission that is being developed under the McLaren BC-03 codename.

Confirming a second hypercar was in the works to British website PistonHeads, McLaren says the BC-03 is being engineered alongside the McLaren Speedtail hyper-GT and is said to draw influence from the wild Vision GT concept that was originally created for the PlayStation Gran Turismo game.

The 'BC-03' name stands for Bespoke Commission 03 and it's thought the mysterious hypercar will be a track-focused carbon-fibre hypercar that will share a development of the Speedtail.

The lighter and considerably more extreme hypercar is thought to share many parts under the skin with the Speedtail hyper-GT, but the hardcore BC-03 is set to be even faster on track and be quicker than the recently launched Senna.

It's likely to feature an advanced active aerodynamic package that could preview McLaren's next-generation air-bending trickery and under its rear boot lid will be a development of the car-maker's current twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8.

Featuring a new hybrid system for even more power, the BC-03 is rumoured to get a pair of powerful in-wheel electric motors that will boost power to around 900kW.

Instead of featuring electric motors within the gearbox casing, the new 'pod motors' provide for traction-boosting all-wheel drive and levels of torque vectoring not possible from current hybrid systems.

The set-up also allows for a zero-emission mode and is thought to provide an engineering blueprint for the car-maker's forthcoming next-generation hybrid powertrain.

It's not known how many millions of dollars the hypercar commission has cost its owner, nor when McLaren plans to unveil what could be its fastest, most advanced vehicle yet.
