Abarth is continuing its 75th anniversary celebrations with the stunning new 2024 Abarth Classiche 1300 OT that will be produced and sold via parent Stellantis’ heritage division.
Paying homage to the 1965 Fiat Abarth 1300 OT racer that competed to great success in Group 4 sports car racing in Europe, the new model is an evolution of the Abarth Classiche 1000 SP released in 2021.
Like the 1000 SP, the new Abarth 1300 OT will be restricted to just five units and is heavily based on the Alfa Romeo 4C sportscar produced from 2014 to 2020.
As such, the 1300 OT is based on a full carbon-fibre monocoque but, unlike the original, also uses the lightweight composite for all its body panels.
Designed to “retain the essence of an authentic Abarth”, the 1300 OT gets curvy looks, a roof-mounted periscope air intake and louvered rear window that mimic the racy original.
At the rear there’s a full-width engine air vent that has ABARTH lettering stamped in it, positioned above a new bumper and centrally-mounted trapezoidal exhaust.
The engine is the Alfa 4C’s 1.75-litre four-cylinder turbo that, without any modifications, produced 177kW and could launch the sports car from 0-100km/h in just 4.5 seconds. It also had a 258km/h top speed.
There’s no word if Abarth has turned up the wick for the 1300 OT, or made other mechanical changes.
Produced and sold by the Stellantis Heritage division, it’s not been disclosed how much each of five Abarth Classiche 1300 OT special-edition models will cost.
However, interested buyers have been warned to act fast as earlier run of 1000 SP models were said to have sold out quickly.
Back in 2016, a 1966 1300 OT Periscope sold in the annual Amelia Island auction for a cool $US506,000 ($A780,000).
