Wild Hennessey Venom F5 Roadster teased

500km/h F5 set to be anointed world’s fastest convertible, but just 30 to be made at circa $4 million

Texas hypercar marque Hennessey Performance has teased the forthcoming convertible version of its wild Hennessey Venom F5 ahead of the ballistic drop-top’s debut at Monterey Car Week in California on August 19.

The company has released a rear-end detail shot and a darkened image of the side profile of the 2022 Hennessey Venom F5 Roadster, which is expected to feature the same mighty 1355kW 6.6-litre twin-turbocharged V8 that can send the coupe version to a top speed of more than 500km/h.

The rear detail shot shows the roadster’s new LED tail-light design, carbon-fibre grille and provides a glimpse of one of four rear exhausts.

As well as lopping off the roof, the Hennessey Venom F5 Roadster is expected to carry several design changes over the coupe, including a revised aero to maintain stability at extremely high speeds.

The company said on its social media posting that the roadster is “a bespoke mid-engine hypercar engineered to exceed 300mph [483km/h] while delivering unparalleled performance and the world’s most exhilarating open-air driving experience”.

Claimed to be capable of a 0-100km/h sprint of just 2.5 seconds in coupe form, the American alternative to a Bugatti Chiron really only gets into its stride well into three-figure speeds, with the 0-250mph (0-402km/h) dash devoured in an astonishing 15.5 seconds.

Its theoretical top speed is 328mph (528km/h).

Following its reveal, it’s thought Hennessey will cap roadster production at just 30 cars, with pricing starting at around $2.75 million ($A3.98m).

The Texan tuner and hypercar-maker already holds the Guinness World Record for the world’s fastest convertible with the previous Hennessey Venom GT Spider, clocking 265.6mph (427.4km/h) back in 2016.

That made it almost 18km/h faster than the next fastest roadster, the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport Vitesse.
