The Hyundai IONIQ 5 N TA (Time Attack) racer has broken cover ahead of its first outing at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb on June 23.
The Korean car-maker has produced two Time Attack Spec versions of its high-performance EV to race alongside two showroom-ready examples, the latter competing in the inaugural all-electric SUV class while the TA twins will tackle the electric modified WSUV class.
While the standard IONIQ 5 N needs only a Hans-equipped driver’s seat, six-point race harness, roll cage and fire suppression system, the dedicated motorsport model features a wild aero kit, higher-output 505kW dual-motor powertrain (+27kW) and a set of smaller 18-inch race wheels wrapped in Yokohama Advan 05 slicks.
All models competing in the race up the mountain also have an uprated version of the N Active Sound+ simulated engine noise that turns the volume up to 120dB to warn spectators of their approach.
Driving duties in the Time Attack Spec cars will be handled by four-times Pikes Peak winner Robin Shute and Spanish WRC works Hyundai driver Dani Sordo.
The standard cars will be piloted by three-times ‘King of the Mountain’ Paul Dallenbach and rookie Ron Zaras.
As part of this year’s Pikes Peak event, Hyundai says it will collaborate with Gran Turismo to create a simulated racing take on the 20km climb in the IONIQ 5 N.
