Wild Italian EV supercar yours for $4.1m

Pinifarina will build just five Battista Anniversario electric supercars, but all of them will pack 1400kW

The widespread adoption of electric automotive powertrains is providing engineers with new opportunities to offer a new level of performance in sports cars, and the gob-smacking new Pininfarina Battista Anniversario supercar is a case in point.

Revealed online overnight instead of at the cancelled 2020 Geneva motor show, the sleek battery-powered super-coupe retains the same trio of electric motors as the 'regular' $3.4m Pininfarina Battista, pumping out a spleen-popping 1420kW of power and 2300Nm of torque.

That's roughly the same power output as 18 Suzuki Jimny 4x4s.

Performance? Unbelievable. It'll accelerate to 100km/h in less than two seconds and has a top speed of around 350km/h.

But what do you get for your extra $700,000 over the standard model? Well, the Battista Anniversario features more aerodynamic bodywork, via a special new rear wing and loads of carbon-fibre addenda such as side blades, a rear diffuser and front lip spoiler.

New lightweight 21-inch forged aluminium wheels shave 10kg of unsprung weight off the jaw-dropping Italian EV.

A new tri-colour exterior finish (white/grey/blue) and hand-painted coachlining (pinstripes) are added too.

Pininfarina has trimmed the cabin a little differently, with black leather and Alcantara.

If you're looking for a unique supercar, this one developed with help from Croatian EV specialists Rimac could be just thing.

Its 120kWh lithium-ion battery pack is good for a range of around 500km too.

By way of comparison, the upcoming Tesla Roadster 2.0 is expected to have a 1000km range and will offer similar dynamic performance but for a much lower price of around $A380,000 ($US250,000).

While the Battista is the flagship vehicle in Automobili Pininfarina's portfolio, the brand's switch from car designer to car-producer under new Indian owner Mahindra will likely yield more mainstream vehicles.

Pinifarina's long-term goal is sell around 10,000 cars annually by 2025 and it has more models in the pipeline.
