Williams F1 movie set for London premiere
The true story that Formula One and Williams Racing fans of all ages will enjoy about the iconic Williams teamF1 stars from several generations will be among the crowd as Williams, the movie, premiers next week (11 July) at the Curzon Mayfair cinema in London.
Based on the 1992 book by Lady Virginia Williams, A Different Kind of Life, the new documentary film is the work of BAFTA-winning director Morgan Matthews and screens in British movie theatres from 4 August.
Frank Williams’ determined rise from rags to riches, punctuated by the severe road car crash which left him paralysed, is one of the most extraordinary stories in motorsport.
The film features candid behind-the-scenes accounts of what went on behind the doors at Williams HQ in Grove, Oxfordshire, as well as garages at Grands Prix throughout the world.
Sir Jackie Stewart, Sir Patrick Head, Nigel Mansell and Nelson Piquet are among the F1 icons featured.
“This film is a tale of two great loves in my fathers’ life,” revealed Claire Williams, the team’s Deputy Team Principal. “Everyone knows of Franks pure passion for motor racing, but not everyone knows the remarkable story of my parents’ marriage and how those two things co-existed during the highs and lows of the team’s history.
“I am pleased that it shines a light on exactly how instrumental my mother was in the team’s success while also capturing the setbacks and her bravery in holding the family, and ultimately the business together, as the team went on to make history.”
No details regarding Australian screenings have been announced. According to Curzon films the movie will be out on DVD, Blu-ray & on demand from 14 August .
