The Dromana 3 Drive-In on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula now offers patrons the ability to charge their EV while they watch a movie on the big screen.
In a post on their Facebook page, the Heritage Victoria and National Trust Listed Drive-In cinema announced that moviegoers have the ability to book one of six EV chargers next time they visit.
“Dromana 3 Drive-in, the first drive-in movie theatre in the world where you can watch a movie and charge your EV car, under the stars, with power collected from the sun.”
The only catch is that you do need to BYO your own CCS2 charging cables to connect your car up. The chargers are placed in between the parking spots at the drive-in where once the speaker boxes once lived.
The Dromana Drive-in is historically significant as one of only three drive-ins in Victoria to survive intact and still operating out of the 60 that once existed. These three, Coburg, Dandenong, and Dromana, are the last remnants of the once popular cultural phenomenon, one that had a real impact in the US, Canada and Australia.
