UPDATED 01/06/2017 09:00am: In a press release issued this morning, Jeep has now announced the Trackhawk will arrive in Australia earlier than expected this December.
“I’m very excited to confirm that the Trackhawk will officially join the new Grand Cherokee range,” said Jeep Australia President and CEO Steve Zanlunghi. “From the moment it was revealed in New York we knew we had to bring it to Australia. Public interest in the Trackhawk has been incredible – barely a day goes by when I’m not asked if it’s coming. Now I can confirm it.
“The Grand Cherokee Trackhawk will be on sale in Australia in December, and it will shatter performance SUV benchmarks.
“Australia is the second biggest market for our 344kW Grand Cherokee SRT, behind the USA, so we’re confident Australians will absolutely love the Trackhawk which has even more of what makes the SRT so popular – a lot more!”

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has finally confirmed the wild Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk for Australia, weeks after it invited expressions of interest via its public Jeep website.
The announcement was made by FCAA chief Steve Zanlunghi in New Zealand this evening at the local launch of the facelifted Grand Cherokee range, which is topped by upgraded Trailhawk, Overland and SRT models.
But the Trackhawk will eclipse all of those models, including the 344kW/624Nm 6.4-litre SRT, which costs $91,000 plus on-road costs.
Jeep says its 527kW/874Nm 6.2-litre supercharged V8 from the mad Dodge Charger and Challenger SRT Hellcat muscle cars will push its first Trackhawk model to 100km/h in just 3.6 seconds and a top speed of 290km/h, making it the world’s quickest and most powerful SUV.
Indeed, the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk will be quicker than the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S ($287,200 plus ORCs), but not the Tesla Model X, which Jeep claims is a crossover and therefore not in the same race.
But while it may well cost less than half that of Porsche’s fiercest SUV, the Trackhawk won’t be cheap, with an expected price tag of around $140,000 making it the priciest Jeep ever.
