It has been unveiled in Europe and is expected here in the fourth quarter of this year, but an online car configurator for the new, third generation BMW X5 is already up and running on a US BMW website.
The configurator falls a bit short of full details of the new X5, which was officially unveiled at a global launch in May but it provides enough information to allow an on-site build of any model in the new range.
The US X5 configurator lists pricing and varied configurations for Luxury Line, M Sport, xLine and rear-wheel drive sDrive models, with engines covering six-cylinder sDrive35i and xDrive35i petrol and xDrive35d diesel, as well as the xDrive50i petrol V8. There is no mention of the rear-drive diesel, the sDrive25d, in which BMW Australia has expressed interest.
In Australia, the X5 launch will be headed up by the 280kW/740Nm six-cylinder turbo-diesel xDriveM50d version (which doesn’t get a mention in the US) with the 550kW/650Nm xDrive50i 4.4-litre twin turbo petrol V8 and the less-powerful diesel, the 190kW/560Nm xDrive30d, part of the lineup. Note our six-cylinder diesel engine is designated xDrive30d, not xDrive35d as is the case in the US. The US petrol six is also designated sDrive35i and xDrive35i. Whew.
