The 2026 XPeng P7+ sedan has been locked in for a local unveiling on June 27 at the Melbourne International EV Show, giving Australians their first opportunity to check out the Chinese EV-maker’s latest mid-size sedan.
Unwrapped just one year after the XPeng G6 first went on sale Down Under, the new XPeng P7+ has yet to be officially locked in for an introduction locally, but if given the green light could land alongside the Mona 03 medium hatch later this year.
Despite being aimed at the mid-size BYD Seal and Tesla Model 3 sedans, the 5056mm-long XPeng P7+ is very much a full-size sedan.
In China, the P7+ is available with either a 60.7-kilowatt-hour or a larger 76.3kWh battery that is combined with either 180kW or 230kW rear-mounted e-motors.
The CLTC range is claimed to be as high as 710km and as low as 602km. Its starting price in China is 186,000 yuan ($A40,000).
Based on the shorter P7i, the P7+ under consideration for Australia is 168mm longer, with a generous wheelbase measuring in at 3000mm.
Like the larger X9 people mover, the P7+ boasts a larger 15.6-inch infotainment system that is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8285P chip and is combined with a digital instrument cluster and a two-spoke multi-function wheel.
In the centre tunnel are dual 50W wireless charging pads.
Second row occupants don’t miss out on creature comforts, with the P7+ offering electric heated and ventilated massage seats (except for the middle seat), while there’s a further 8-inch infotainment touchscreen.
Other highlights include claims of the P7+ offering class-leading efficiency and advanced Turing-powered driver-assist tech. The latter uses artificial intelligence-powered sensors that are said to boost the safety and sophistication of its driverless tech.
Commenting on the XPeng P7+, which will be shown off alongside the current G6 SUV-Coupe, larger G9 and X9 people mover, Jason Clarke, boss of XPeng importer TrueEV, said the new model underscored the brand’s progress.
“Unveiling the P7+ in Australia, for the first time outside of China and Europe, and just one year after introducing XPeng and the G6 into the Australian market, is a powerful statement of momentum,” he said.
“This flagship sedan represents XPeng’s leadership in AI-defined mobility alongside TrueEV’s commitment to bringing future-focused electric vehicles to Australian drivers.”
Previously, XPeng has announced that it wants to expand its local offering from one car to a line-up of five EVs in the next 18 months.
