Yet more Ford Ranger variants released

Blue oval brand adds 4x2 XL Sport, 4x4 XL Heavy Duty special, 4x4 XL Bi-Turbo and upgraded XLT utes

Ford Australia has announced the addition of even more variants to the 2021 Ford Ranger line-up, swelling the number of versions in the popular ute range to 34.

Fresh from releasing the 4x4 XL Tradie, the full-time Wildtrak X and the FX4 Max, Ford has now announced the 4x2 XL Sport, 4x4 XL Heavy Duty special-edition and 4x4 XL Bi-Turbo.

In addition, Ford Ranger XLT – the most popular variant within Australia’s top-selling 4x4 ute range – now comes standard with adaptive cruise control.

ACC was previously part of the optional Tech Pack and is now standard for no extra cost in all XLT variants including 4x2 and 4x4 Super Cab, Double Cab and Cab Chassis.

The additional and upgraded Ranger variants arrive in showrooms in late June.

Based on the Ranger 4x2 XL Double Cab, the new 4x2 XL Sport borrows styling cues from the XLS Sport and adds black accents including black 16-inch alloy wheels, black sport bar, black rear bumper, black side steps and black grille, plus a bedliner and tailgate decal.

Priced at $43,790 plus on-road costs, Ford says the XL Sport adds more than $4500 worth of extra features compared to the standard XL.

It’s powered exclusively by a 118kW/385Nm 2.2-litre turbo-diesel and six-speed automatic. Paint colour options include Arctic White, True Red, Shadow Black, Meteor Grey and Aluminium Metallic.

Meantime, the new Ford Ranger XL 4x4 Heavy Duty Special Edition Double Cab Chassis is available exclusively in Arctic White and combines two previously separate packages into one comprising nine accessories.

These are led by a factory-fitted genuine Ford steel bull bar with LED light bar, mounting points for driving lights and UHF antennas and compatibility with its standard auto-braking (AEB) system.

There’s also a genuine Ford fixed-head snorkel, black 17x7.5-inch steel wheels with Continental CrossContact All-Terrain tyres, Heavy-Duty suspension, black side steps and a reversing camera kit.

The new Ranger 4x4 XL Heavy Duty Special Edition Double Cab Chassis comes standard with Ford’s 3.2-litre turbo-diesel and six-speed auto, for $52,790 plus ORCs.

Finally, all Ranger XL 4x4 variants (Super Cab Chassis, Double Cab Chassis and Double Cab Pick Up) can now be had with the 157kW/500Nm 2.0-litre Bi-Turbo diesel and 10-speed auto previously reserved for premium models including the Raptor.
