You can now stay overnight in Scooby-Doo’s iconic Mystery Machine van

The iconic Mystery Machine has come out of retirement (along with the spirit of Shaggy) to take guests right back to 2002 with a unique campervan stay.

Zoinks! Can you believe that it’s been twenty years since Scooby, Shaggy and the crew solved the Spooky Island mystery in the franchise’s first live-action film? To celebrate the anniversary, Shaggy himself, A.K.A. actor Matthew Lillard is firing up the Mystery Machine once more for a new mission, serving as your Airbnb Host in the gang’s iconic van.

Shaggy and Scooby embraced the #Vanlife before it was cool, and the Mystery Machine is fully set up for two super fans to experience all the spooky thrills for a night. This is the perfect Y2K nostalgia meets campervan stay down the Southern California coast.

Matthew Lillard starred in both the live-action Scooby-Doo films as well as taking over as the voice in the animated versions in 2010 so he is more than qualified to ensure you and your own mystery-solving crew have a groovy time.

“I’ve been channelling Shaggy since the live-action adaptation in 2002, and he’s been a part of me ever since,” said Lillard. “I can’t wait to welcome guests into the world of the Mystery Inc. gang as their Airbnb Host and give them a summer vacation they’ll never forget…monsters not included!”

Guests will be able to book a one-night stay on June 24th, 25th and 26th for only $20 USD a night in celebration of the film’s 20th anniversary. During a stay in the Mystery Machine, guests will get:

  • A virtual greeting from Lillard upon arrival – he may even share some of his favourite memories about being one of those meddling kids
  • Lots of 2002 throwbacks including listening to the latest Sugar Ray album on a portable CD player, basking in the glow of a lava lamp and donning Shaggy’s signature puka shell necklace
  • All-you-can-eat snacks and meals featuring all of Shaggy and Scooby’s favourite foods (like hot dogs and eggplant burgers)
  • Heaps of Mystery games so guests can put their own mystery-solving skills to the test
  • A late-night screening of Scooby-Doo, complete with popcorn and all the Scooby Snacks you desire

You can explore the listing here if you're keen to channel your inner mystery solver. And I would have gotten away with it too if it weren't for you meddling kids!
