Z-car upgraded for 2006

Nissan has upgraded its 350Z flagship sports models, with the 2006 models boasting more power and enhancements inside and out.

The key part of the upgrade sees manual transmission Zeds powered by a 221kW version of its trademark 3.5-litre V6. The same powerplant which slipped under the bonnet of the 350Z anniversary model, output has increased a handy 15kW via better breathing and valve timing changes. (Note: Auto versions retain the existing 206kW engine.)

Other modifications include suspension and steering tweaks while all Touring models now get larger 320mm front (up from 296mm) and 308mm rear brake discs (up from 292mm).

There’s a reprofiled front bumper/spoiler and new Xenon headlamps, as well as LED rear lamps. All models now roll on 18-inch wheels. Inside Nissan has made greater use of aluminium accents and also optimized cockpit controls and storage.

For the 2006 model year, the 350Z line-up comprises five variants -- three Coupes and two Roadsters. The Touring Coupe is available with either the six-speed manual transmission for $62,990 or the five-speed automatic at $64,990. The Track Coupe with Brembo brakes, traction control and bodykit is now available with a manual transmission at $67,990.

The Roadster is available as either a manual-only Track for $73,990 or automatic-only Touring for the same price.
