Fledgling car-maker Zarooq used last weekend’s Abu Dhabi Formula 1 race as the stage to reveal an all-new SUV rally car that will race at famous long-distance rally raid events like the Dakar Rally.
Called the Sand Racer, the UAE-based car-maker also confirmed its new racer will also be offered as a road car.
Measuring 4.2 meters long, the new SUV coupe comes powered with a mid-mounted 3.5-litre V6 that puts out anything between 225kW-373kW, channelling power to the rear wheels through a six-speed automatic gearbox. The Sand Racer will top out at 200km/h (depending on gearing).

Weighing just 1000kg, the SUV comes clad in a carbon-fibre skin and is thought to be based on a tubular space-frame chassis.
Road going versions are said to come with a more luxurious interior that swaps its four-point race seats for a pair of more comfortable leather chairs. Air conditioning will also feature, as well as an infotainment system.
Just 20 road cars will be made when the Sand Racer enters production in 2016. Pricing is expected to start at around $140,000.
As well as the road car, Zarooq is also building an off-road circuit in Dubai to provide owners with a safe environment to race their Sand Racers without leaving the city.
