Zeekr 7GT wagon to undercut hot-selling 7X

Zeekr whipped the covers off its 7GT electric wagon at Everything Electric Sydney on the weekend, and carsales can confirm the sleek five-door will land cheaper than the 7X SUV that has become the Chinese brand’s runaway local success story.

The 7GT launches here in the fourth quarter of 2026 in three flavours – RWD, Long Range RWD and Performance AWD – with first customer deliveries following in the first quarter of 2027.

Zeekr Australia and New Zealand managing director Frank Li didn’t dance around it when we asked whether the 7GT would slot in under the 7X.

“The best way from our perspective to invest [in Australia] and to pay back to the customers is to provide our best product with a better price. So that’s why we make this decision to price 7GT – each of the 7GT models will be lower than 7X, even though it hasn’t been fully confirmed yet,” Li said.

“Because I think a lot of them have been waiting and want to know this good news. So I just spoke with some of our customers [at the Everything Electric show] and they seem very happy with this positioning.”

“We would like to share this information to our customers right away.”

For context, the 7X range opens at $57,900 plus on-road costs (ORCs), with the Long Range RWD at $63,900 and the Performance AWD at $72,900. Our tip? Don’t expect a fire sale. A few thousand dollars under each 7X grade feels about right, which would still make the 500kW flagship a remarkable bit of value.

We’ve driven the 7GT on a racetrack and on snow in Queenstown, New Zealand, and it’s a genuinely handy thing. All 2.3 tonnes of it stayed composed lap after lap, the brakes refused to wilt, and the rear-driver was happy to hang its tail out on command. Crucially, it’s sportier and more engaging to drive than the 7X.

Both RWD variants make 335kW/520Nm, good for 525km (WLTP) from a 75kWh LFP battery or 670km from a 100kWh NMC pack, with 0-100km/h in 5.2 and 5.0 seconds respectively.

The 500kW/790Nm Zeekr 7X Performance AWD covers 590km, cracks the sprint in 3.1sec and swaps the 19-inch wheels for 20-inch forged items.

“So actually, that is a hard decision for us [to price it below 7X], but we think that is a wise decision because we need to be taking care of our customers,” Li said.

“We think that it’s worth the investment, to keep investing in Australia market. It’s one of the biggest market for Zeekr overseas right now.”

That investment isn’t just talk. Zeekr opened the world’s first standalone Zeekr Body Repair Centre in Five Dock, in Sydney’s Inner West, on September 19 – a 2500sqm facility with 36 repair bays, eight factory-trained technicians and capacity for more than 150 vehicles a month. The brand has now passed 10,000 Australian deliveries in less than two years on the back of 1400 per cent year-on-year growth, with August its biggest month yet at 2212 deliveries.

Back to the wagon. The 7GT measures 4817mm long, 1910mm wide and 1456mm tall on a 2900mm wheelbase, with a slippery 0.25Cd drag figure and a five-star Euro NCAP rating already banked.

Boot space is 456 litres, expanding to 1390L with the rear seats folded, which is down on the 7X’s 539L/1978L – the trade-off for that low-slung roofline and a driving position that sits you deep in the car.

There’s another reason the 7GT can be sharpened. We’re getting the 800-volt version rather than the newer 900V car just launched in China, which packs a 103kWh CATL Qilin battery and up to 585kW. Same story as the 7X, which arrived here on 800V just as China moved on.

Known as the 007 GT in its home market, the wagon already sits below the 7X in China, so Zeekr is simply repeating the formula here. Standard kit includes a 15.4-inch mini-LED touchscreen, a 35.5-inch augmented-reality head-up display, a 13-inch driver’s display, twin 50W wireless chargers, panoramic glass roof and heated, ventilated and massaging front seats.

And rivals? There basically aren’t any. The Denza Z9 GT is bigger and dearer, while the BMW i5 and Porsche Taycan wagons both start north of $200,000. Which makes the 7GT less a Tesla Model 3 alternative and more a Taycan Sport Turismo for people who’d rather keep their house.

Precise pricing will be announced later in the year, ahead of the Q4 2026 launch and those first Q1 2027 deliveries. Expressions of interest are open now.

Zeekr will back the 7GT with a five-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty, an eight-year/160,000km battery warranty and five years of roadside assistance, supported by a dealer network set to grow from 15 sites to more than 25 by the end of 2026.

Having only arrived here in late 2024, and with the 7X leading the Medium SUV Over $65,000 class for seven straight months, Zeekr has earned the right to be ambitious. Pricing a 500kW wagon below its best-selling SUV is either very brave or very clever. We’ll know which one by March.
