Yet another variant in BMW's expanding model range, the 5 Series GT is more 7 Series that anything else. Built on the short-wheelbase 7 Series platform and offering an eclectic combination of spacious luxury sedan, practical hatchback and high-riding SUV, the GT is a bit like a rear-drive interpretation of the X6 ?Sports Activity Coupe?. By 7 Series standards, the GT is almost bargain-priced, but compared with the ""real"" 5 Series, it's at premium level with an entry tag above $140,000. It comes in three forms: 180kW/540Nm 3.0-litre turbodiesel 530d, 225kW/400Nm twin-turbo 3.0-litre six and 300kW/600Nm twin-turbo 550i 4.4-litre V8.
