BMW offers two versions of its i3: a city-centric full-electric version or a longer-range plug-in hybrid. The BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle) version travels between 130km and 160km in normal use, or as much as 200km at its most efficient. The REx (Range Extender) variant adds a 650cc petrol engine and a 9.5-litre fuel tank to extend that to between 240km and 300km. It's quick too: BMW claims 335i-like acceleration from 80km/h to 120km/h in around 5.0 seconds. The cabin is spacious, light-filled and replete with individual signatures such as the "suicide" rear doors and bongo-drum C-Pillar windows.
