Overview
Honda has positioned its hybrid Civic very competitively -- at below $35,000 it has an advantage over Toyota's Prius. The Civic is frugal to run (4.6l/100km average) and quite normal to operate, with its complex machinations largely invisible to the driver. The hybrid's CVT transmission is responsive and smooth, making the most out of the combined 85kW/170Nm petrol/electric delivery -- and the driving experience is surprisingly sporty. The location of the battery pack below the rear parcel shelf precludes the split-fold rear seat. Standard gear is essentially as per base Civic, but six airbags, climate-control, a six-CD stacker and 15-inch alloys are added.
