Overview
Kia's Sorento SUV underwent a major change with the second-generation range introduced in 2009. Scratching the original's pretty focussed off-road themes, the new one is more a soft-roader with independent suspension, monocoque construction, seven-seat capacity # and the choice of front-wheel or all-wheel drive. Engine choices include 128kW/226Nm 2.4-litre petrol four-cylinder and a 145kW/422Nm/436Nm 2.2-litre turbodiesel (higher torque in auto versions). 4WD is only available in diesel versions. Prices have gone up, but the payoff is a five-star safety rating and various niceties including hill descent control, cruise control, trip computer and alloy wheels.
