Hybrid engineering reaches some sort of peak with the Lexus LS600hL. The long-wheelbase LS series starts with a 290kW/520Nm five-litre version of the regular V8 engine, then adds an electric motor adding 165kW/300Nm -- then sends it all through a permanent all-wheel drive system. The daddy of all hybrids has a claimed fuel consumption of 9.3L/100km despite a weight exceeding that of many big 4WDs. There is virtually nothing to add in this massive Lexus. It gives buyers the choice of an Ottoman chair in back, complete with massage function. This is also the Lexus that parks itself with minimal driver input.
