Overview
The late Colin Chapman's Lotus brand made a name for bold innovation and an uncompromising attention to road handling on or off the track. Today the company is more known for quirky-looking but raw-bones track cars parading as road cars. The two-seat Elise model fits the mould perfectly with its no-frills accommodation and eye-popping roadholding not to mention neck-snapping acceleration available through the combination of high relative power outputs and light overall weight. The five-speed manual, mid-mounted engine in the Elise S displaces only 1.8 litres and produces 100kW/172Nm, yet accelerates to 100km/h in a rapid 6.1 seconds.
