Powered by a rapid (zero 100km/h in 5.0sec) inline 280kW/500Nm 3.0-litre mild-hybrid six-cylinder engine driving all four wheels through a nine-speed auto transmission, the S-Class claims 8.2L/100km fuel consumption (short-wheelbase). The exhaustive list of new technology includes front and rear centre airbags, a "virtual-reality" head-up system on the windscreen, gesture-control for functions such as external-mirror adjustment, intuitive responses such as the automatic opening of the rear sunblind if the driver looks towards the rear window, and voice-activated functions available to all passengers.
