Mitsubishi's first 'alternative fuel' offering for Australia comes in the form of the I-MiEV, a sprightly fully-electric, 47kW, rear wheel drive five-door hatch, that can return up to 160km on a full charge. Once you start using air conditioning, heating, headlights, wipers or indeed the radio, the range is reduced accordingly (possibly by more than half), making it a city dweller's car almost exclusively. Charging times range between six and eight hours using your garages outlet. Based on an existing, Japan only, petrol driven model, it offers similar levels of comfort and safety features of its small car counterparts.
