Overview
The cabriolet version of the new Beetle came to Australia in June 2003, adding more charm to an already appealing concept. Probably closer to the original Karmann cabrio that was never officially sold here with its fully-exposed folding roof and tiny boot lid, the convertible works surprisingly well, both functionally and stylistically. The 2.0-litre powerplant is still not over endowed, with just 85kW and 172Nm of torque. Transmission choices are a five-speed manual or a six-speed Tiptronic automatic and standard equipment includes all the basic 1.6-litre petrol coupe gear, adding active roll over protection, 16-inch alloys, cruise control, and 10-speaker CD audio.
