A complete re-design has helped the Touareg achieve better off-road ability, reduce fuel consumption and emissions, along with improved passenger comfort and safety. Engines are either two 3.0-litre diesels of different power and a 3.6-litre petrol. All are V6s driving all four wheels via an eight-speed Tiptronic auto and VWs renowned 4x4 system. Uniquely the Touareg feels smaller than its actual size, with good all-round vision and good cabin room. Safety is at its highest levels, with nine airbags, all the expected electronic assistants, including the off-road variety, and an optional "Driver Assist Package" that offers leading edge capabilities.
