Silvy – A Genuine Time Capsule
Silvy is her name, given in honour of her original owner who—together with her husband—purchased her brand new and cared for her as if she were family. That level of love never stopped. We have photographs from the day she was collected and every receipt from new, all carefully kept and still stored in a folder on the back seat where they’ve lived for decades.
She later passed to a work colleague of mine who inherited her, and I became her custodian around five years ago. In that time, Silvy has travelled approximately 50 kilometres. For the most part, she has rested quietly in a climate-protected garage.
This is a true collector-grade car:
• Completely original paint
• Original engine
• Original glass
• Original interior
• Original plates
• Still on standard registration
• Just 46,000 miles from new
The interior is nothing short of remarkable—immaculate, unmarked, and yes, it still carries that unmistakable new car smell that only untouched originals retain.
Out of respect for preservation and reliability, I’ve replaced only what time demanded: belts, radiator, alternator, and exhaust, as the originals were beginning to show their age. Nothing unnecessary. Nothing modified.
There are a few honest signs of age—minor paint blemishes and a small amount of rust in the guards—as you would expect from a 57-year-old survivor that has never been restored or disguised. What you see is authenticity.
Why let her go?
Because cars like this aren’t meant to be hidden away forever.
My intention was to drive her once a month, carefully return her to rest, and let time do the rest. In truth, she’s driven even less than that. She gets the occasional battery charge, a gentle roll into the driveway, a wash, a dry, a quiet moment of admiration—and then back under her blanket. Don’t get me wrong she wants a run and still will sprint along when necessary.
Silvy still has life in her. She wants sunlight, weekend lunches, long conversations at traffic lights, and someone who understands that preservation doesn’t mean at rest!
The Right Next Custodian
I purchased Silvy for $50,000 and am asking, reflecting the purchase price and the essential work required to keep her as she should be. This figure does not account for registration, insurance, storage, or years of care—I’m still a little underwater financially, but that was never the point.
This car will not be sold to the first voice on the phone. Someone with more time than me
