1988 BMW E30 320i Convertible with 2.5 (M20B25) conversion.
Ideal car for any 90210 (Kelly Taylor) fan entering a mid life crisis.
I'm selling it because we recently a new house and I just can't keep it in the garage anymore so it needs a new home.
This E30-generation BMW 320i is a well-maintained example of the handsome modern classic convertible, which boasts an engine transplant providing more power. Its been great to own and has accompanied us to destination weddings in the Hunter and Southern Highlands.
Under the front-hinged bonnet now sits a 2.5-litre 'M20' straight-six engine producing around 168bhp, allied to a five-speed manual gearbox.
I've owned the car for 4 years and driven around 5000kms but as I park it offsite now the use has dwindled even in spring.
The engine swap was completed by the previous owner who was a qualified BMW technician/enthusiast and the work included a new cylinder head.
The odometer displays a tick under 100 000 but we don't have completed service history to warrant this.
The good
- Body is straight and rust free.
- The replacement roof doesn't leak (unless you point a high pressure hose at the seals) which is rare for an 80's convertible
- Engine is great, drives and sounds better than any other e30 or M20 I've ever driven and there has been a few.
- Comes with original BMW stereo, and 14 inch alloy wheels.
- New Kumho Solus TA21 tires less than 1000km ago.
- Pink slip on 26/8/26 with a clean pass
- Suspension upgraded with H&R springs and Bilstein dampers, it's lower but not too low and rides really well.
- Exhaust is great. It's got bass but no boom or drone.
- Fresh oil and filter Sep 26
- Owners Manual, service book and directory are included.
The not so great
- Paint isn't the best (it's been resprayed) but good for a car of this age - see photos
- Dashboard cracks x 2 (show me an e30 without any and I'll show you one that's been recently reskinned) - see photos
- The hardtop release handle (a door handle) doesn't have it's surround but still works well - I bought a new one but the wrong part came
- Someone recently accidentally removed and subsequently lost the sticker from the gear nob (they're dead to me don't sorry). I'll try and source a replacement and update the listing of not sold yet but it'll set you back about $75
- Plastic is bubbling on the tonneau cover (see photos)
- No spare (I didn't get one) and a couple of tools missing (see photos)
- The kerbside clip for the roof's arm has snapped (I'll try and get a photo and update - it doesn't prohibit use or latching)
The car is stored in Rockdale currently and on historic club rego which you probably have read hundreds of times is not transferable.
