1989 Mercedes Benz 190E 2.6 Sportline
Australian Delivery & Compliance - 1 of only 7 cars delivered new to Australia.
The 190E Sportline 2.6 is essentially Australia’s version of the Cosworth, which we never received here.
In the early 1990’s sports-luxury German automaker Mercedes-Benz decided to send off the famously ‘massively over-engineered’ (and now much sought after) W201 series with a bang and created a rare flagship model- the 190E 2.6 Sportline.
The limited production 190E 2.6 Sportline was offered with a raft of extras including Astral Silver paintwork with Grey Sacco panels and AMG body kit over the superb 2+2 Black leather Recaro factory bucket seats, sport tuned suspension taken from the Cosworth model, Bilstein yellow Sports shock absorbers front & rear, larger 15 x 7" Drop Forged lightweight 15-hole alloy wheels with lower profile tyres - the exact same alloy wheels that came standard on the 2.5 16 valve Cosworth, larger sway bars, a close ratio steering box, smaller AMG leather steering wheel, Sportline gear shifter and Sportline exterior badging. This 2.6 Sportline also wears ultra-rare factory Sportline badges externally on both right & left rear buttresses.
The larger 2.6 litre engine producing 165 horsepower combined with the handling and trim upgrades made this car incredibly surefooted and great fun to drive for the daily commute and weekend escapes.
It also meant that the sticker price of a Sportline 2.6 was about $130,000 when a very ordinary & standard 190E was $49,000 which means that today, there are only a handful left.
Offering exclusive ownership, un-burstable build quality and great provenance, securing this 190E 2.6 Sportline is a very savvy decision with worldwide production numbers way less than the 190E 2.5 16 valve Cosworth which had only 5,743 units built & the 190E 2.3 16 valve Cosworth which Interestingly, had 19,400 units built.
This rare car in Astral Silver over Grey is fully factory optioned & has a Cosworth full black leather Recaro interior & Mercedes Benz specialist documented history since new including logbooks, data card, owner’s manual and service receipts.
With just two previous owners from new it was optioned with Driver Air-Bag, Driver electric seat with electric headrest, fog lamps, Cosworth rear spoiler with red fog lamp, Becker radio, sunroof, Pirelli P6 tyres, 4 speed automatic transmission & factory green heat-insulated glass.
In totally original condition, this limited edition 2.6 Sportline is not only collectable but can be driven & enjoyed daily.
It's in excellent running and driving condition as the majority of its travels have been done at Nardo-like high-speeds over long distances with minimal stop-start city driving - a great testament to its continued on-going daily reliability & longevity - making it a very reliable & quick modern daily classic.
Included are the original factory-fitted 15 x 7" Cosworth Drop-Forged 15-hole alloys which have been re-finished to showroom condition PLUS the rare German Ronal 15 x 7" lightweight alloys currently fitted to the 2.6 Sportline.
ThIs 2.6 Sportline is currently registered on NSW Club registration which is not transferable.
