Volvo 960 (Build Date: December 1990, Australian Compliance Plate: May 1992) in very original condition is listed for private sale.
Purchased new from Scuderia Veloce in Sydney, circa 1992-93, and one lady owner for almost thirty years.
As from December 2020, the second and current owner has placed the Volvo 960 on NSW Conditional (Historic) Registration with Shoalhaven Historic Vehicle Club (SHVC). Conditional Registration cannot be carried over to a new owner, so the car must be sold unregistered. A Roadworthy Certificate can be provided on request. The car has been well maintained, with use over the past six years limited to the occasional run to ensure the car is operating normally. The car performs well as a quiet, relaxed and comfortable cruiser.
Following the purchase from the original Owner in December 2020, routine maintenance has included periodic oil changes, new battery, new tyres, and a replacement water pump and related hoses. Non-routine maintenance has included remediation of the cruise-control functionality, including the replacement of related vacuum hoses.
This particular vehicle is relatively rare because it was originally fitted with a Peugeot-Renault-Volvo (PRV) B280F engine, with an aluminium block, 2.85 litre capacity, and 90 degree V6 engine. This ‘even-fire’ engine type was carried over from the previous Volvo 760 GLE series vehicles; one of the last of this type fitted to a Volvo and continues to perform smoothly. The engine is fitted with a timing chain, not a timing belt. This engine configuration was fitted to the ‘DMC DeLorean’ (think ‘Back To The Future’), and the Australian-designed ‘Triad’ Sports Car. This engine was also fitted to various Peugeot, Renault and Chrysler cars (AMC Eagle Premier).
For a thirty-five year old car, the condition of the mechanical components, body, and leather interior are in good order; typical of the older-style Volvo ‘build-quality’. There are some imperfections, but these are consistent with the age and mileage over 30+ years.
In its present condition, this 1990 Volvo 960 is well suited to a Volvo enthusiast who will arrange Conditional (Historic) Registration with a recognised classic car club. Present owner is down-sizing to reduce need for storage space. Some additional spare parts are available, including a spare bonnet (aluminium - different colour) and boot lid (different colour).
The asking price is firm and no negotiation will be considered without prior inspection of the vehicle.
