I’m selling this car on behalf of a close friend in his mid-60’s who is currently consumed with family health-related issues and needs help finding someone keen to continue the ownership of this exceptional upgraded late-1996 Bathurst MR2. He will be available to talk to any serious prospective buyers.
The car was bought in Sydney in 2009, completely factory standard with 134,000kms on the clock. It now has 186,400kms and since its purchase, and a substantial amount of money has been spent on the vehicle.
A 200bhp naturally-aspirated 3S-GE BEAMS Red-Top VVTi engine has been installed, along with all new OEM plumbing and the correct OEM Yamaha-tuned airbox, as well as new TRD engine mounts. The gearbox internals were also swapped to the close-ratio gearing that was matched to these engines. An Exedy HD clutch is also fitted along with a Magnaflow exhaust.
Due to the Bathurst editions low kerb weight, with the extra power of the BEAMS VVT-i engine and the close-ratio S54 box, it's quick.
Also fitted were brand new Toyota-supplied Bilstein shocks and suspension bushes, TRD springs, TRD strut braces front and rear, and new brake pads and discs.
Everything was professionally installed by a workshop in Sydney who know MR2's inside out and the rego papers have the updated engine number.
Exterior-wise, the car is wearing an MR2 Turbo model engine lid and imported TVR Tuscan rims (which you probably won't find on another MR2 on the planet) with Toyo T1-R 225/45R16 tyres on the rear and 205/50R16 on the front. Windows are tinted to the legal limit.
Inside, the original seats have been re-trimmed in Alcantara with red stitching and full leather backing, as well as matching door inserts, late-model OEM 3-spoke red-stitch MR2 steering wheel and gear knob, plus ‘MR2’ embroidered floor-mats and an OEM rubber boot mat.
There's much more I could list, but you get the idea. You’d be hard pressed to find another Bathurst-edition MR2 this clean and well-spec’d for sale anywhere today.
The owner has also collected a large treasure trove of spare parts which are all boxed up in the garage beside the car. These include two brand new factory-painted Toyota OEM front lips along with all fittings, an unpainted full front nose cone (these are very rare), another full spare set of TVR wheels with used tyres, as well as an unused set of Toyo T1-R tyres.
There’s an array of brand new maintenance items like timing and alternator belts, OEM oil filters, two new sets of brake pads, a variety of new gaskets, tie rod ends and shock absorber and CV joint dust boot covers, fuel filter, clutch master and slave cylinders, interior door handle cups, tweeter covers, a set of brand new window regulators, body badges and trim strips, a full set of targa roof rubber seals, clips and fasteners, and more.
There are spare intake oxygen and MAF sensors, solenoids and ignition coils (coil on plugs), an engine camshaft position sensor, starter motors, a spare BEAMS ECU and camshaft pulley, a spare throttle body, dipsticks, shifter/brake/throttle cables, another full set of lightly used TRD springs and Bilstein shocks, a spare used S54 close-ratio gearbox and matching flywheel.
There are also spare body parts like wing mirrors, the original Bathurst engine lid and steering wheel, plus a full set of OEM manuals, including one for the BEAMS engine, and much more.
Much of this stuff is now getting more difficult to find, especially the brand new OEM parts.
This spares stash will not be included in the sale price of the car, but can be negotiated separately if the buyer is interested. You'll need either a large van or trailer to collect it all.
This is a rare opportunity for any genuine MR2 SW20 enthusiast to purchase a unique, fully-pampered and well-loved vehicle which has always been driven with proper respect. You also have the option to buy the rare and exhaustive collection of parts which will help maintain it well into the future.
