2012 Holden Commodore Equipe

GM Holden has released a special edition Commodore and Sportwagon that brings several thousand dollars worth of extras to the table

In a bid to boost sales of its top selling car, Holden has released a new Series II special edition, the Commodore Equipe. Priced at $36,990 drive-away for the sedan and $38,990 drive-away for the Sportwagon, Holden claims the new model represents almost $10,000 worth of extras.

The new special edition Holden Commodore Equipe adds several exterior options to the package, such as 18-inch alloy wheels, front fog lights, Equipe badges and chrome grille accents. The sedans also get decklid chrome eyebrow moulding while Sportwagons get a rear cargo blind instead.

Inside the Commodore, additional features comprise leather seats and steering wheel, rear parking sensors, a rear view camera and chrome accents around the instrument cluster add to regular issue items like iQ touch-screen system and Bluetooth connectivity.

John Elsworth, Executive Director of Sales, Marketing and Aftersales for Holden, says "...the Special Edition Equipe models introduce a raft of fantastic extra equipment including a rear view camera."

Powered by Holden's 3.0-litre direct injection V6 engine, outputting 190kW/290Nm, the 2012 Holden Commodore Equip also comes as standard with a six-speed automatic transmission, anti lock brakes, stability control and six airbags.

Elsworth wasn't coy when outlining the Equipe's objective: "At such a competitive price we expect it to be a winner in our showrooms."

Currently the Holden Commodore looks to retain its mantle as Australia's most popular car for 16th year in a row, despite the Mazda3 giving it a real scare for several months of this year.

The Commodore Equipe model will "definitely not be a full time model" according to a Holden spokesperson, but the company has not put limits on its production. If there's demand, it will create more supply.
