2014 Honda Civic Tourer unveiled
Stylish new compact wagon boasts petrol and diesel engines, but has been ruled out for AustraliaHonda has taken the wraps off its new Civic Tourer wagon ahead of its public debut at the 2013 Frankfurt motor show in September. The fresh-faced wagon shows off a progressive visual style that isn't too far removed from the Civic Tourer concept design revealed in March at the Geneva motor show.
Due to hit European dealerships in early 2014, the new wagon has a large 624 litre boot expanding to 1668 when the rear Magic Seats are folded away.
Built at Honda's UK factory in Swindon, the new wagon measures the same height (1440mm) and width (1770mm) as the Civic hatch, but is significantly longer than its 4285mm sibling, at 4520mm long.
The Civic wagon is also a fancier looking vehicle, featuring a sporty front end design, a sleek profile and a unique glass-covered D-pillar that Honda says sets it apart from other vehicles in the segment, such as the Volkswagen Golf and Hyundai i30 wagons.
Honda's small wagon will be powered by a choice of two engines, a 1,8-litre i-VTEC 104kW/174Nm petrol engine and Honda's acclaimed 1.6-litre i-DTEC 88kW/300Nm engine.
The recently-released compact turbo-diesel engine was launched in Australia in the Civic hatch in April, making it Honda Australia's first-ever diesel, and both engine types will be offered with auto and manual gearboxes in Europe.
The UK-built Honda wagon will also benefit from an adaptive damper system (ADS), which can be toggled through comfort, normal and dynamic suspension modes.
Australian buyers will be denied the opportunity to drive the attractive Honda Civic Tourer on local roads, as Honda Australia told motoring.com.au in March that it had no plans to bring the Honda Civic Tourer here .
While Honda resists the urge to bring the vehicle to Australia at this stage, as compact SUVs are generally favoured over passenger wagons, it doesn't mean the car won't find its way here in the future.
The Civic Tourer's newly-designed front end will grace an updated version of the Civic hatch, which will shown alongside the wagon in Frankfurt and will however be coming to Australia, though the details and timing are still being nutted out.
