2014 Range Rover Sport from $102,800

The all-new Range Rover sport arrives here just in time for Christmas, with more bells and whistles than ever

Land Rover Australia has announced pricing for the all-new Range Rover Sport, starting at $102,800 for the turbo-diesel V6 SE model, a price rise of $2400.

Customers will begin receiving vehicles here from December 2013 after dealers get the car in November, and despite the slight price rise Land Rover Australia reckons the new model
is better value than before, by cramming in more technology and more features than its predecessor.

The new Rangie Sport boasts an all-new new design inside and out, electrically folding seven seat option (or 5+2 as Land Rover calls it), plus it's lighter, more capable on road and off, and uses up to 24 per cent less fuel says the company.

Every single Range Rover Sport engine type and trim level will be offered to Australian buyers, encompassing three V6s and a V8, plus five spec levels, and improved
performance will also be a key selling factor for the new model.

"With Land Rover capability at its heart, it is one of the most road focussed vehicles we’ve ever produced, but of course still offers unsurpassed all-terrain capability," says Land Rover Global Brand Director John Edwards. "It is a vehicle which is designed to be driven".

"We’ve taken ride, handling and agility to another level for Land Rover to deliver a truly rewarding, sporting, drive together with unmatched luxury, capability and versatility," adds Edwards.

All models are four-wheel drive and packaged with eight-speed automatic gearboxes. Full Australian pricing for the new 2014 Range Rover Sport:

TDV6 190kW DIESEL SE $102,800
SDV6 215kW DIESEL SE $113,600
SDV6 215kW DIESEL HSE $125,800
SDV6 215kW DIESEL Autobiography $145,500
V6 SUPERCHARGED 250kW PETROL HSE $123,100
V8 SUPERCHARGED 375kW PETROL HSE Dynamic $161,600
V8 SUPERCHARGED 375kW PETROL Autobiography Dynamic $182,400

Entry-level 3.0-litre TDV6 engines are the most efficient in the range, using just 7.3L/100km, while generating enough power and torque (190kW/600Nm) to a 3.5 tonne trailer and reach 210km/h.

The more powerful SDV6 turbo-diesel 3.0-litre engine (215kW/600Nm) uses slightly more fuel at 7.5L/100km and has the same top speed and towing capability.

The sole 3.0-litre supercharged V6 petrol engine (250kW/450Nm) has the lowest torque output of the range but isn't slow, accelerating from 0-100km/h in 7.2 seconds.

Topping the range is the 5.0-litre supercharged petrol V8 engine that cranks out a 375kW/625Nm, ensuring a sports car-like 0-100km/h sprint time of just 5.2 seconds. The supercharged V6 and V8 petrol engines drink fuel at a claimed rate of 11.3 and 13.8L/100km respectively.

As an aside, 4.4-litre V8 turbo-diesel model will be coming in 2014 producing 250kW/700Nm, and a hybrid Range Rover Sport is also on the cards. For more details on the tech specs, check out our first drive of the Range Rover Sport in the UK.

Entry-level TDV6 SE models kick off proceedings with more standard features than before, including LED daytime running lights, 19-inch alloy wheels, grained leather seats, rear parking sensors and a reverse camera, automatic headlights and wipers, dual zone climate control, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with HDD satellite navigation and voice control, Bluetooth audio/phone connectivity, an eight-speaker 380W stereo, up to three USB ports (one for each seating row) and an electrically powered push-button tailgate.

Other features fitted as standard on the entry-level Rangie Sport include intelligent engine start-stop, electric parking brake, automatic load-levelling air suspension, cornering brake control, stability control, trailer stability control, 19-inch alloy wheels, and the Terrain Response AWD system.

And if that's not enough, there are the HSE and Autobiography trim levels to consider, which get even more equipment.

All Range Rover Sport models are five-seaters as standard with the electrically powered seven seat (5+2) option adding $3700. A third-row seating/climate control pack can be had for $6000.

Wheels sizes span 19, 20, 21 and even 22-inch diameter, and a 'Dynamic' pack can be optioned on HSE and Autobiography models. It adds performance oriented extras like red Brembo brake calipers and unique interior and exterior trim.

Customisation options don't end there either, with 11 interior colour themes, four aluminium interior finishes, three real wood veneers, three headliner colours, 19 exterior paint finishes, three contrast roof colours and illuminated tread plates to mention a few.

In 2012 Land Rover sold 1728 Range Rover Sports for a 9.9 per cent share of the large premium SUV market. League leader BMW X5 had 2778 sales (15.9 per cent) and the Mercedes-Benz M-Class managed 2729 (15.6 per cent).

Thus far in 2013 the Range Rover Sport's market share has dropped to 8.1 per cent, but Land Rover Australia's Brand Manager Tim Krieger said the new model would strengthen its position in the segment once it arrives in dealerships late in the year.
