BMW has release official details for the entry-level petrol and all-wheel drive diesel models of the X2 SUV.
Scheduled to arrive in Australia from June, the BMW X2 sDrive18i is the new variant at the base of the range, featuring the front-wheel drive underpinnings of the BMW X2 sDrive20i already on sale, but with a turbocharged three-cylinder 1.5-litre engine.
Also due in June, the X2 xDrive20d will top the 2018 BMW X2 range with its all-wheel drive and four-cylinder diesel powerplant.
BMW had already announced these additional variants, but pricing and specification had remained a mystery until now. The BMW X2 sDrive18i brings the X2 range within reach of buyers limited by a $50,000 budget, and the BMW X2 xDrive20d is priced just below $60,000.
“We have already seen strong interest in the X2, both via initial media reviews as well as in the dealerships and on our website,” says BMW Group Australia CEO, Marc Werner.
“Now we have taken the opportunity to fill out the range, offering a strong entry offering in the sDrive18i, as well as the xDrive20d, a turbo-diesel, all-wheel drive range topper.
“With these options, the BMW X2 presents a compelling proposition for the small SAV purchaser,” Werner was quoted as saying in a press release.
Priced at $49,900, the X2 sDrive18i develops 103kW and 220Nm, which is piped to the front wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. BMW Australia is yet to confirm fuel consumption and CO2 emissions figures for this model, ahead of its launch date.
Standard features at this level include 18-inch alloy wheels (versus 19-inch for the sDrive20i model), LED headlights with cornering lights, LED fog lights, high-beam assist, rain-sensing wipers, powered tailgate, leather-bound multi-function steering wheel, 12-Volt power sockets and air conditioning. Additionally, the basic X2 features six-speaker audio with digital radio, satellite navigation, five-inch colour touch screen, acoustic parking guidance, reversing camera and adaptive cruise control.
For $59,900, the BMW X2 xDrive20d produces 140kW and 400Nm from its 2.0-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine, which is coupled to an eight-speed automatic transmission and drives to all four wheels. Combined-cycle fuel consumption in Australian specification is 5.1L/100km and the official CO2 emissions in the same test cycle are rated at 134g/km.
The trim level is based on the (petrol, front-wheel drive) X2 sDrive20i, and features the lower-priced model's 19-inch alloy wheels, Alcantara Anthracite cloth upholstery with yellow stitching, sports seats in front, Anthracite headlining, M Sport suspension, M leather-bound steering wheel, climate control, interior lights package and anti-dazzle rear-view mirror.
