2019 Ford Focus teased in new video

Ford has teased its new Focus hatchback, confirming a full unveiling will take place on April 10.

The Volkswagen Golf and Hyundai i30 competitor has been shown in a short video released by the Blue Oval.

While there’s nothing earth-shattering during the 18-second montage, the teaser reveals some of the fourth-generation model’s details, including new headlights complete with a LED signature, a sculpted bonnet, athletic lines and a bold Focus badge flanking the rear.

The car in question features large alloy wheels wrapped in quality Michelin rubber and red brake calipers, suggesting a sportier flavour such as the ST-Line. Ford is also set to unleash a wicked-up ST hot hatch version in next-generation guise, but it will likely arrive later.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen the next-gen Focus. In February, images of the hatch (purportedly another ST-Line) emerged from Portugal, where Ford was believed to be filming a promotional video.

Already spotted frequently testing ahead of its launch late in 2018, the Focus will feature an engine line-up that largely resembles the third-gen range. That means the hatchback’s engine range will start with a 1.5-litre turbo petrol and stretch to a powerful 2.0-litre turbo for the fast ST versions.

Later on, the car maker is expected to reintroduce an RS version that could also keep its mighty 257kW 2.3-litre turbocharged four-cylinder.

As far as transmissions, a six-speed manual and conventional automatic will be offered.

Later on, plug-in hybrid versions will also join the range but it’s not clear if Ford will replace its slow-selling pure-electric version.

This could push delivery dates for our cars into early 2019.
