The wraps will be whipped off the facelifted 2019 Ford Transit van, a big two-tonne machine that will be shown alongside the smaller Ford Transit Custom plug-in hybrid model.
Ford will reveal all on September 20 at the IAA Commercial Vehicle show in Hannover, Germany, and has teased the design of the 2019 Ford Transit van in this preview image.
The big two-tonne 2019 Ford Transit van will launch in Europe in mid-2019 but Ford Australia is not talking about timing at this stage. The official word from Europe is that the updated van will feature a “smart new front-end design” along with more storage space and a new-look interior.
It will also get updated 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engines and a segment-first 48-volt mild hybrid system on manual models.
The smaller Ford Transit Custom, whose Australian sales have risen by 47% so far in 2018, will be offered with a new plug-in hybrid system, which offers a 50km EV driving range. It’s 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine works as a range-extender, giving the vehicle a theoretical range of around 480km, or 300 miles.
Ford also plans to wow commercial vehicle buyers with several new data and telematics services, designed to help fleet operators streamline their businesses.
“Hannover will mark the arrival of an exciting new family of Transit commercial vehicles that are ‘born connected’,” said Hans Schep, Ford Europe’s commercial vehicles chief.
“Advanced connectivity, and our game-changing electrified vehicles, will create extensive new opportunities to create value for our customers.”
