Already seen testing in the US, the big news is the 2019 Subaru Liberty, or 'Legacy' as it's still called in other global markets, will switch to the Impreza's Subaru modular global platform (SGP).
The new SGP underpinnings will bring a substantial improvement in both rigidity, kerb weight, handling and on-board technology, with the Liberty set to come equipped with a semi-autonomous cruise control for the first time.
Inside, it's clear the Liberty will finally be a match for its more advanced rivals with the introduction of a large portrait-mounted infotainment system.
As well as introducing its latest operating system to the Liberty range that will be able to be accessed by the MySubaru app, the large screen also has a lower section dedicated to operate the climate control.
Under the bonnet, the flat-six-cylinder engine that powers the current range-topping Liberty will be dropped for a more efficient turbocharged 2.4-litre flat-four that will be combined with the car-maker's CVT and standard all-wheel drive.
Smaller, direct injection 2.0-litre engines are also likely as well as electrified powertrains in the near future.
In the US markets, the Subaru Liberty is set to go on sale around June. It's not yet clear when Australian cars will arrive.
