BMW Australia has released pricing and specification details for the updated X3 and X4 SUVs, which go on sale this month.
The mid-size X3 SUV and its SUV-coupe X4 sibling arrive in showrooms with more equipment and technology, coinciding with a $1000 price increase across the regular line-up.
The X3 range starts at $63,900 plus on-road costs for the rear-driven sDrive20i, while the entry X4 chimes in at $77,900 (plus on-road costs) for the all-wheel drive xDrive20i.
Headlining equipment changes across both ranges for 2020 is the fitment of BMW’s all-digital ‘Live Cockpit’ – the equivalent to Audi’s well-received virtual cockpit display – comprising a 12.3-inch driver instrument cluster, a 32GB multimedia storage system and BMW’s Connected Package Professional suite bringing online services, speech recognition, real-time traffic information and concierge services.
But like other BMWs, X3 and X4 customers will be asked to pay for Apple CarPlay beyond the standard one-year subscription.
The entry X3 sDrive20i ($63,900) is powered by a 135kW/300Nm 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, and as with the rest of the range, it is mated standard to an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The diesel X3 range is anchored by the xDrive20d ($67,900), using a 2.0-litre four-cylinder oiler with 140kW and 400Nm.
The X3 sDrive20i and X3 xDrive20d get as standard: head-up display, 19-inch alloy wheels, cloth and leather interior, satellite navigation, LED cornering headlights and digital radio. Meantime, the standard safety suite includes automated emergency braking, lane departure warning, hill descent control, front and rear parking sensors and a reversing camera.
Next in the line-up is the petrol-powered X3 xDrive30i ($84,900), which uses the same petrol four-cylinder as the sDrive20i but is retuned to 185kW/350Nm, and the diesel-powered xDrive30d ($83,900), which steps up to a 3.0-litre straight six turbo diesel.
The 30i and 30d variants gain all-leather upholstery, keyless entry, powered tailgate, adaptive cruise control, 360-degree surround view monitor and 20-inch wheels.
Topping the regular X3 line-up is the sporty X3 M40i ($100,900), which employs a 3.0-litre straight six turbo-petrol with 285kW and 500Nm outputs. It gains 21-inch wheels, an M Sport differential; launch control, adaptive suspension and updated brakes.
As before, at the top of the pile is the X3 M Competition ($157,900), which is powered by a 3.0-litre inline six with colossal 375kW and 600Nm figures. The flagship adds an M Sport exhaust, variable-ratio steering, a unique body kit and exterior embellishments.
The 2020 driveline and equipment levels are carried over across respective X4 variants, along with $1000 price increases across the five-variant range: X4 xDrive20i ($77,900), X4 xDrive20d ($80,900), X$ xDrive30i ($84,900), X4 M40i ($110,900) and X4 M Competition ($164,900).
